Hyonmu (half tortoise and half snake), guardian deity of the north,
one of the four gods regarded as guardians of the four directions.

Koguryo was the first feudal state in the history of Korea, and its tomb murals are the oldest paintings still in existence on the Korean Peninsula and are one of the paragons of the Oriental paintings of the early middle ages in their technique and accuracy.

The painting "Hyonmu", is one of the world famous mural paintings that can be found in the ancient tombs of the Koguryo Period built in the 3rd century B.C. These paintings have remained almost unfading up to the present time, despite two thousand years of exposure to stone water drizzling on them.

Studying the materials used in these mural paintings have inspired researchers and scientists of the DPR. of Korea to invent several kinds of inorganic paints. The advantages of the new HyonmuTM paint that has thus been developed in the DPRK, lie in the fact that it does not need conventional organic solvents, but water as its solvent. Furthermore, it is innoxious, smell-less and fire-risk proof, thus ensuring a pollution-free environment. Fast air-drying feature is another superiority of "Hyonmu".

The Hyonmu^TM Paint consists of a vehicle and a pigment, the former being made of denatured water-soluble alkaline metal silicate and the latter of metals, metal oxide powder and inorganic pigments.

"Hyonmu" paints are available as ship bottom paint, heat-resistant paint, shop-primer, fungicidal paint or fire-retardant paint.

The ship bottom paint, in particular, has won the gold medal in the 22nd International Inventions and New Techniques Exhibition held in Geneva in 1994 and has been registered by several international organizations such as the WIPO and the EC, as well as by many countries including Germany, USA, England, Netherlands and China.

1. SZ-167: Ship Bottom Paint with Long-Lasting Anti-Corrrosive and Innoxiuos Anti-Fouling Functions
SZ-167 U, undercoating gives a prolonged anti-corrosive effect by means of the electrochemical cathodic protection, passivity and the formation of water-resistant film with passing time.
Though containing no organic toxic materials like TBT, SZ-167F, final coating gives innoxious anti-fouling functions sufficienty in such way that it forms functional film to which larvae are reluctant to adhere, because of the combined action of alkaline silicate and transition metal ion and which absorbs calcium ions of aminoacid calcium colloidal solution secreted by adhesive organisms, thus weakening the adhesiveness of the cohesive protein, so that foulings, once attached on it, could be easily taken off.
The anti-corrosive as well as the anti-fouling functions were fully confirmed through many experiments and applications, thus permitting a complete painting process using SZ-167 only.

2. SR-700: Heat Resistant Paint, Reliably Preventing Super-Heat Oxidation
SR-700 has excellent adhesion and heat oxidation resistance by forming stable oxide compound film at high temperature above 1000 oC.
It is very efficious for steel equipments working at high temperature such as heat-resistant engines, chemical installations, rocket fuel combustion chamber and atomic power generating equipments.

3. SP-1: Shop Primer
With its excellent adhesiveness, fast drying, anti-corrosiveness and weather-resistance, SP-1 is usable for different types of iron plates, shape-steel and steel structures.
In particular, it is never affected by welding, cutting and fabricating works, so that absolutely no cracks or swellings of film around welded spots can be found, and is yet sufficiently flexibile.
